Location & Travel Tips

The museum is located at the end of the scenic Silver Trail Highway. Although maps or GPS might suggest the Duncan Creek Road, this seasonal, unmaintained route is not advised. It’s impassable for most vehicles, especially RVs and campers. Stick to the Silver Trail Highway for a safer journey!

Share the road

Keno City is home to Yukon’s only active mine, operated by Hecla, located close to town. Don’t be surprised if you encounter heavy equipment and trucks on the Silver Trail Highway or even in Keno City itself. Exercise caution, especially between Elsa and Keno City, as the road has many narrow sections and curves. Stay alert and be prepared to share the road safely.

What to bring & expect

Keno City is a remote town, so it’s important to arrive prepared. Stock up on fuel, water, and groceries in Mayo before heading to Keno, as there are no stores here.

Bring layers for the ever-changing mountain weather, and don’t forget your camera – the views from Keno Hill are spectacular!

Accommodations

Keno Community Club Campground: Enjoy private, creekside camping with a gazebo and firewood available for $15/night. Please note that this is a private campground, and Territorial camping permits do not apply. Payments can be made directly at the museum. Remember to pack out all garbage, as facilities are limited.

Ski Hut:
Rustic, communal accommodation with wood stove; sleeps four.
$10/night.

Other Options:
In Keno, ask about local accommodations like the Bottle House for groups, or Keno Cabins (contact info available upon request).

Staying in Mayo?
Find comfort at Bedrock, Northstar Motel, Raven’s Landing Suite, or Gold and Galena Bed & Breakfast.
